Theology Pub Mondays at 9:00pm Sullivan's Irish Pub and Restaurant 13368 Madison Avenue Lakewood, OH 44107 |
|
The Theology Pub is a facilitated discussion about theology,
faith, God, and life. Everyone is welcome to participate and all perspectives will be respected. |
|
Theology In the most basic sense, theology is words about God. Theology is faith seeking understanding. The theological conversation is both persistent and dynamic, informing and being informed by the lived realities of its participants.

Pub In Ireland, the pub, or public house, is often the hub of the community. It’s a place where the significant events of life are celebrated with food, drink, and song. More importantly though, it’s a place where life’s daily events, the real fabric of life, are talked about, laughed about, and occasionally cried over. Young or old, neighbor or stranger, rich or poor, all are equal within the doors of the pub.

Guidelines for Facilitated Conversation
1.Respect for opinions, intelligence, experience, faith, and lifestyle of
all participants.
2.We will not tolerate racism, sexism, or homophobia.
3.If you disagree with a presented viewpoint, work to understand it rather
than refute it.
4.If you are a talker – don't be afraid to listen. If you are a listener – don't
be afraid to talk.
5.The facilitator will attempt to keep the conversation on topic and moving
along. Sometimes this means that a person will be asked to refrain from speaking
in order that other voices can be heard. Please don't take it personally.
6.Although we understand that consumption of alcoholic beverages can enliven
conversation, we ask that everyone drink responsibly and respectfully.
Topics and Facilitators
1.If you would like to propose a topic for an upcoming theology pub, please
contact Meredith at least 2 weeks prior to the date with a topic. This
will give us time to put an announcement on the website.
2.If you would like to facilitate a conversation, please contact Meredith
to work out the details.
3.There will always be an opportunity at the beginning of the evening to
share specific resources on the topic of discussion. If these are available
in digital format and given to Meredith ahead of time, they can be included
with the announcement on the website.
4.Occasionally we will invite special guests to lead our conversation on
a topic that they may be thought to have some 'expertise'. On these occasions,
they will be asked to give a brief summation of their experience before the
conversation is opened up to everyone.
